During the launch of the road map to the 2020/21 general elections on December 11 2018, the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Byabakama stressed the need for government especially, Parliament and the Cabinet to enact timely reforms to electoral laws to ensure free, fair and transparent elections. Proposed reforms include amending the Presidential Elections Act to prohibit the giving of donations by all candidates as recommended by the Supreme Court in its ruling on Presidential Election Petition No.1 2016. This follows a survey of members of the 10th Parliament that indicated that at least 3 in 5 MPs agreed that the amount of money spent contesting for a parliamentary seat should be limited.
