On February 1 2019 the 20th Ordinary Summit of Heads of State of the East African Community was held in Arusha, Tanzania. President Yoweri Museveni represented Uganda at the summit and he was joined by the Heads of State of Rwanda, Tanzania and Kenya as well as representatives of the Heads of State of Burundi and South Sudan. The Summit is an organ of the East African Community tasked with guiding the development of the objectives of the community, reviewing the state of peace, security and good governance within the community; as well as reviewing progress towards the political federation of the partner states.
